The formulation solution
How to reduce Titanium Dioxide demand further
For years the paint industry has been trying to find ways to reduce formulation costs by lowering the TiO2 content. Through formulation evolution, IMCD found a new way to achieve it.
In 2020, ten years after the World Health Organisation’s International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) classified Titanium Dioxide as possibly carcinogenic, the European Commission has classified the raw material as a category 2 suspected carcinogen by inhalation. This implies that companies must adapt to new evidence and consequent policies in order to improve working environments.
IMCD has developed a way to save up to 12.5 wt% TiO2
Our technical team is constantly looking for new formulations with innovative thinking and customized solutions.
With our portfolio of TiO2 and Rheology Modifiers from our best-in-class principals, we have developed a solution that can reduce your TiO2 needs and keep the performance of your Decorative Paint when it comes to opacity and application.
Benefits
Would you be interested in attending our Experts4Experts web conference?
In our web conference, we explain our formulation approach and share our test results. This will provide you with a starting point for your TiO2 improved formulation.
Reduce formulation costs
Our solution allows you to maintain the performance of your Decorative Paint while reducing your formulation costs.
Improve paint opacity
Our solution offers increased opacity when maintaining the same TiO2 amount.
Better spatter resistance
Changing the Rheological Modifier package to a more Newtonian behavior allows developing shorter-range structures and no droplet formation in the roller and brush. This leads to exceptional spatter resistance.
Less hazardous materials
The reduction of TiO2 in the formulation allows reducing the amount going through the factory, resulting in less exposure.
